- Two system types: M1/N1 vehicles may use Type I or Type II; M2, M3, N2, N3 vehicles must use Type II (4.1).

It also records timestamp events: activation, exit, takeover request, start of minimal-risk manoeuvre, severe ADS or vehicle failure, and user operation of the exit device (4.2.1.1).
- Storage capacity: Type I ≥5 impact/risk events and ≥2,500 timestamp events; Type II ≥8 h continuous data plus ≥2,500 timestamp events (4.5.2).
